Knowing in Community

I just admire the way Parker Palmer has connected the so called great things such as development in physics, biology, and sociology etcetera to the mode of knowing in community. Today’s modern sciences and developments have confirmed what many mystics and sages such as Francis of Assisi, Buddha experienced world as deeply connected to one another. Francis called sun as brother and moon as sister. Buddha experience world as a mass of energy. I admire St. Ignatius for giving us a positive spirituality which helps us to find God in everything. As Palmer rightly points out that our education system needs to move from fragmented, objective mode of knowing to a community mode of learning. Even we need to grow from the temporary solutions given by therapeutic, civic and marketing mode of community learning to reality based community of relationship mode of learning.

  1. Hi Vinod! I loved how you bring up other religions and their ideas and searches for community. I love the ideas you reminded me of especially to see God in everything!

  2. Hi Vinod, Yes St. Ignatius wrote, "seeing God in all things." I am so glad to have read that "Creation Theology" is one of the areas that Church has focused on. At my last school, the goodness, sacredness of all creation was emphasized. They teach children about our environment and have many projects helping them to be aware of being good stewards of creation. Maria Montessori's philosophy included the emphasis on the interdependence of all creation.

    Vinod,
As you quoted St. Ignatious "to find God in everything" If as teachers we are more aware of this, we will teach differently , and I do not mean we don't but sometimes we need to be reminded it...so thanks to bring it up. As Palmer says, if we recovered a sense of the sacred, we would recover our capacity for wonder and surprise." God gives us this ability and if we learn to contemplate more it becomes naturally, isnt it?

    Dear Vinod,

    How are you?
    We missed you in class!

You mentioned about the connection of great things as a way of knowing in community. As we know, our God is a God that lives in community=commun union of three divine persons. God's hallmark is in everything He created. People with a deep spiritually is able to see everything big or small, fragile or strong as part of one big family. Then every human being is blessed with the light of the knowledge of these people.

    God bless!

  5. Hi Vinod! We miss you! I love your examples of community you posted in your blog. I think it is an integral need we all have and the more we realize we are infinitely in community with all living things the more we see God's hand working through it all. God bless you and hope to see you next summer!
